KMFDM Kranks It Up In NYC

The first band was a no show, so although I didn't get in till 8, the show wouldn't start till 9 which allowed me to mellow a bit. I had a photo pass and was pumped as hell and would be right under Sascha's mic when KMFDM hit the stage. The first band was Army Of The Universe and they rocked and got the crowd charged up after the long wait. I had never heard of them, but they were good and I slid around the barrier and got up close and personal. They jammed a good set for about half an hour. I was so psyched. I had seen the set list for KMFDM's show in San Fran so I had a good idea of what they were going to play. I knew they were opening with "Krank" and I just had to be right under Sascha and Lucia's mics for that which is why I got a photo pass. As I hung out in front of the barrier before they came out I got a look at tonight's set list. Fuck yeah! This would be the shiiiat!!

As I knew, they hit the stage with "Krank". Oh man! I was right freakin' in front of them, close enough to reach out and touch them. Lucia was gorgeous as always and Sascha is the man!! I was in awe! I was jumping around like a madman. Steve White was on guitar to the left and Jules Hodgson on the right. I was right under their chins!! They blasted into "Amnesia" after that and I was right between Sascha and Lucia and got some of the best video I've ever taken! I jumped back in the crowd after that and "Cmon Go Off" had the kids sweatin' and surfin' like crazy! They mixed in some older stuff "Bait And Switch" "Tohuvabohu" "Potz Blitz" "Looking For Strange" with the new ones "Dystopia" and "Take It Like A Man". Willie Wilson from Legion Within came out for vocals on "Spectre" before they really got the place jumpin' with "Megalomaniac". They finished off the new stuff with two more of my favorites "Lynchmob" and "Rebels In Kontrol". Then they removed the roof!!

"A Drug Against War" was my favorite song of the night and it ripped the place to shreds! Kids were jumpin' and stompin' and flyin' overhead! "Attack/Reload" and "Hau Ruck" added to the onslaught before they exited the stage. But not for long. The crowd roused them back out for "World War III" and "D.I.Y." which brought total devastation to the Irving Plaza floor before they walked off again. They returned for "Day Of Light" and "Godlike" to finish off the amazing set and send me home with memories of one of the best shows of the year. I got some fantastic footage you can see below. I was dripping with sweat and amazement! To me, KMFDM is certainly godlike and still going very, very strong!
